Do I Really need Transmission Fluid?

Yes - Transmission fluid is necessary and the frequency varies by manufacturer and vehicle. Many manufacturer maintenance schedules don't call for fluid until 100,000 miles or for certain Fords, 150,000. Manual transmissions can be on a different schedule entirely, so check with your maintenance schedule in your owner's manual.

Many mechanics believe that you can have better results with changing your fluid every 50,000 miles. Here are low fluid symptoms to look for:

  • Transmission shifts roughly
  • Transmission slips
  • Noise Transmission
  • No Drive Engagement in Forward or Reverse Gears
